Social Media Development (Worldwide/China)

The way people access information is changing at a rapid pace of technology development, with social media gradually replacing traditional media expanding swiftly like a bubble, all forms of social software are popping up and people are spending more and more time browsing social software and watching short videos. So how has social media evolved? How many users do mainstream social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok? How much time people would spend on them daily?

This project compares the timeline of different mainstream social media app platforms in the World and China and the different stages of social media development in China.

The second first infographic shows when the different social media emerged, and how quickly they expanded in terms of user usage, and how long users used them, with the blue bubble above being the world social media app and the red below being the Chinese social media app. The second infographic shows the evolution and development of social media in China from the days of internet portals at the beginning of the 21st century to the current popular social media apps, listing popular apps such as TikTok and WeChat.
