The Most Expensive Sports for Kids by Pradeep Kumar G

The visualization was created using Tableau software, and some design elements were created with Figma. The data preparation was done using Tableau Prep. The visualization shows the most and least expensive sports for kids in the U.S. in 2019. The expense categories of a sport are represented in different colors and resemble dandelion flowers blooming from the plant – hence the chart is called as ‘Dandelion Chart’. Parents with a child in ice hockey spent on average $2,583 per year – the most expensive sport among the 21 sports evaluated. The data source is taken from Aspen Institute/Utah State University 2019 National Youth Sport Survey (1,032 youth sports parents).
