Hybris debris - What Humankind Leaves Behind by Andrea Benedetti, Politecnico di Milano

This artefact represents the impact that humanity has had in space around Earth. Each piece of tinfoil represents 10 debris pieces generated by man in the Earth’s Low Orbit, for a total of 13 hundred little pieces that represent the 13.000 pieces of man-made residues.

The tinfoil is applied onto a stellar map, as we see them from the surface of our planet: for astronomers, space junk obstructs the view of the starry sky, and the aim is to create the impetus for us to remove the tinfoil in order to see the stars.
