Where Switzerland gets its electricity from – all year round by Jonas Oesch

In Switzerland energy sources interlock to deliver electricity throughout the year. During the winter months imports from its neighbors, most notably Germany and France, fill in the gaps. With these imports in jeopardy due to the European energy crisis, the government is looking to its large dam lakes to bridge possible outages. The second visualization shows how these reservoirs are typically filled and emptied throughout the year – and how much water the government wants to retain as a reserve.

The source of inspiration are Nadieh Bremers and Zan Armstrongs "Baby Spike" visualization.
