The Photograph We Never Took by Tiziana Alocci

This work follows my father's death in 2019 and reflects on our relationship, especially on the loss of my favourite photograph I had with him. I thought the best way to reconstruct our lost picture was to create a new one. This is my take on data sonifications, but instead of converting quantitative data into sounds, I translate sound into visuals to create a sound visualization.

I found a few videos with our voices and made the artwork visualising the data contained in the audio. The visualisation shows two rings, one for each voice. The sound forms of the two voices join together as two uniting circles, replacing our missing picture and creating a new one. Finally, I played with transparencies, blurs, and colours to align the sounds with my emotions. The visualisation is made manually, without using code or scripts.

The artwork measure 101.6 cm x 101.6 cm and is a Giclée print on Canson Aquarelle Rag 310gsm, signed and numbered.
