Negative Partisanship Works in American Elections by Morning Consult

Survey research reveals how Americans view Democrats and Republicans’ ideology, extreme positions and motivations. Surveyed voters placed themselves, the two parties and their respective voters on a 1-7 point ideological scale, where “1” means “very liberal,” “4” means “moderate” and “7” means “very conservative.”

Our team incorporated icons into the visualizations to help convey how people identified themselves, and how that related to their views of their own and other political parties. We used a variety of simple chart types as well as consistent colors and axis to make sure graphics were cohesive over the entire piece.
