The electoral college map, which was ubiquitous during the 2016 US presidential election, masks the political differences within states. In this piece, I examine the political divide at a more granular level by going within states and seeing how citizens elected their state legislators. Through my maps and breakdown of state legislative districts by political party, we can see that the divide is not so much between red states and blue states but between the rural and urban areas within the US.
