Is Melbourne an Inclusive City? by Kate Pickworth, Swinburne University

Melbourne provides some of the country’s best food and entertainment, but not everyone has access to it. Over half the buildings in Melbourne CBD alone are not accessible to people in Wheelchairs or who can’t use stairs. This becomes more of an issue for businesses when you consider we have a rising aging population – and the likelihood of decreased mobility increases as people age. “Accessible Tourism” is also on the rise; do we want a city that excludes a growing number of people from enjoying all that Melbourne has to offer?
